William Peterson is the Technical Director for the School of Dance at the University of Utah, and a freelance lighting designer of dance and theatre. Formerly, he worked with Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company with whom he has designed lighting for new works by Daniel Charon (RETURN, LIVE CREATURE AND THE ETHEREAL THINGS, DANCE FOR A LIMINAL SPACE 1&2, NOW OR NEVER), Yin Yue (IN THE MOMENT SOMEHOW SECLUDED), and Stephen Koester. He has been the Lighting Designer and Technical Director for BRINE Dance since 2017, and has designed dance lighting for UVU's Synergy and CDE, and other dance communities in the greater SLC area. Recent theatre design credits in the area include DEATH OF A DRIVER, THE WOLVES, SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY, and STAG’S LEAP (SLAC). In 2016, he received the National Barbizon Award for Excellence in Lighting Design from the Kennedy Center. He holds a BA in Theatre Arts – Design/Tech from Weber State University and is the Production Stage Manager for CSU Summer Arts.
He is semi-fluent in Czech, 40-word fluent in Mongolian and Korean, and enjoys trail-running, traveling, and working in the arts in all its forms
